Regulatory approvals in Slovakia and Egypt
Eden Research plc has secured regulatory approvals for its Botrytis fungicide, Mevalone®, in Slovakia and Egypt, expanding its European presence and marking its first authorization in North Africa. In Slovakia, the product will be commercialized by Biocont for use on grapes and pome fruits, addressing a key disease in an important wine-producing market. In Egypt, the product, registered as Trilogy™ by Sipcam Inagra Egypt, is approved for grapes with no pre-harvest interval, offering a significant advantage for the country's large table grape export industry. These approvals are expected to strengthen Eden's market position and support its ongoing expansion in sustainable crop protection.

Eden Research plc (AIM: EDEN), a leader in sustainable biopesticide and biocontrol technologies, announces it has received regulatory authorisation for its Botrytis (grey mould) fungicide in two further territories: Slovakia, where the product has been registered as Mevalone®, and Egypt, where it has been registered by Eden's commercial partner as Trilogy™.
Key highlights for these approvals are:
Slovakia
- authorised for use on grapes and pome fruits from July 2026
- commercialised by Biocont in Slovakia
- addresses Botrytis in an important wine-producing market
- strengthens Eden's position in Central Europe's growing biological crop protection market
Egypt
- approved for use on grapes with no pre-harvest interval
- commercialised by Sipcam Inagra Egypt
- strong advantage for Egypt's major table grape export industry by supporting last-minute disease control
- First Mevalone® registration in North Africa with further approvals being pursued in the region
Slovakia
The Slovak authorisation for use on grapes and pome fruit was granted in July by the Central Control and Testing Institute of Agriculture (ÚKSÚP). The product will be commercialised in Slovakia by Biocont, Eden's distribution partner in a number of central European countries, a leading specialist in biological and integrated crop protection solutions for the region's fruit and viticulture growers.
Slovakia has six designated wine-growing regions covering approximately 14,400 hectares of vineyard, producing around 332,000 hectolitres of wine annually and some 51,700 tonnes of wine grapes in 2025. Botrytis cinerea is the principal late-season disease pressure in the region, and Slovak vineyards are subject to the same tightening of conventional active substances as the rest of the EU, driving greater demand for residue-free biological alternatives. The approval strengthens both Eden's and Biocont's market position in Slovakia and supports their broader expansion of sustainable crop protection across the region.
Egypt
In Egypt, registration has been granted for use in grapes against Botrytis cinerea with no pre-harvest interval required. Registration was secured and will be commercialised by the Sipcam Oxon, Eden's shareholder and long-standing partner in Southern Europe and North Africa, through Sipcam Inagra S.A. and its subsidiary Sipcam Inagra Egypt. Eden and Sipcam continue to pursue registrations for the same product in Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco.
Egypt is one of the world's largest table grape producers and a significant exporter, with commercial table grape production of approximately 1.59 million tonnes in the 2024/25 marketing year, second only to citrus among Egyptian fruit crops. Grapes are grown from Alexandria in the north to Aswan in the south, giving an unusually long marketing window from May to November, and the European Union remains the principal destination for Egyptian exports. Because EU-bound fruit is subject to strict maximum residue limit and retailer requirements, the absence of a pre-harvest interval is a material commercial advantage: growers can apply the product immediately before harvest which translates into reduced crop loss due to disease-related damage. This is the first authorisation for Mevalone® in the important and growing North African region, a key supplier of fresh fruits and vegetables to European and local consumers, alike.
Sean Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Eden Research, commented: "These two represent important commercial milestones. Slovakia expands our European footprint through Biocont's established grower network and where the transition away from conventional chemistry is well underway. Our partnership with Biocont simplifies the value chain and helps both partners deliver greater value to growers.
"Egypt marks the first authorisation in North Africa for Mevalone® and with no pre-harvest interval on the label, it provides a strong advantage for growers supplying highly regulated export markets. I would like to thank our partners at Biocont and Sipcam, and our own regulatory team, whose work over several years has delivered both of these registrations. We continue to work with Sipcam on the neighbouring markets of Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco and look forward to further regional expansion."
