Kasiya heavy rare earth by-product
Strategy restated in June 2026 quarterly
On 8 Jul 2026 Rio Tinto said it will not elect to become operator of Kasiya and its marketing and pre-emption rights lapsed. Sovereign remains operator and will prioritise a US-focused strategy for rutile, graphite and heavy rare earths. The 30 Jul 2026 quarterly report restates this and cites deepening engagement with the US Government and major US companies. Rio keeps about 18.2%.
