GreenRoc Strategic Materials Plc (AIM: GROC), a company focused on the development of critical mineral projects in Greenland, is pleased to announce the preliminary results of Phase III drilling to date at the Amitsoq Graphite project ("Amitsoq") in South Greenland which has extended graphite mineralisation significantly to the north of the previous resource drilling.
The Company is also pleased to report that Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, made reference to the importance of the Amitsoq Project in a keynote speech she delivered this week in Nuuk, Greenland during which she announced a new EU-Greenland partnership.
Drilling highlights
- Seven holes have been completed from two drill pads, Pad 1 and Pad 3, targeting the northern extension of the graphite orebodies. Results from the first two holes drilled from Pad 1 reported significant thicknesses of graphite orebodies (see RNS of 13 August 2026). Results from Pad 3 are as follows:
o AM_DD_043: LGL intersection from 137.30-162.48 m, with an estimated true thickness of 21.4 m.
o AM_DD_044: LGL intersection from 118.30-123.32 m, with an estimated true thickness of 3.0 m.
o AM_DD_045: Minor UGL mineralisation (<0.25 m) was observed at 65 m, within 10 m of the modelled intercept. The LGL, modelled at 125 m, was not observed in the hole.
o AM_DD_046: LGL intersected from 161.28-165.44 m, with a preliminary estimated true thickness of 2.5 m.
o AM_DD_047: LGL from 182.08-204.94 m, with a preliminary estimated true thickness of 13.1 m. Additional intervals with partial to semi-massive graphite mineralization and common deformed wall rock fragments were intersected at 70.90-76.00 m and 112.13-114.79 m.
- These drill results have extended known graphite mineralisation at Amitsoq some 100-150 m to the north of the previous resource drilling.
- The majority of the planned drilling programme has been completed, with the remaining holes expected to be drilled from early October 2026.
Other highlights
- The President of the European Commission this week announced a €200 million Global Gateway Partnership Package for Greenland for 2026/27, covering critical raw materials among other sectors, and referencing Amitsoq as "a very important project in the field of the critical raw materials".
- GreenRoc management will attend Fastmarkets Europe 2026 in Budapest, Hungary, from 15 to 17 September 2026.
- CEO Stefan Bernstein will hold a webinar on Friday, 25 September 2026 at 11 a.m. GMT / 12 p.m. CET.
Details
Phase III Drilling
Phase III drilling at Amitsoq has continued to progress well, despite some delays due to lack of helicopter availability. At Pad 1, infill holes AM_DD_039 and AM_DD_040 intersected the Lower Graphite Layer ("LGL") with estimated true thicknesses of 9.7 m and 9.2 m, respectively. AM_DD_040 also intersected the Upper Graphite Layer ("UGL") with an estimated true thickness of 4.8 m, while the UGL was not observed in AM_DD_039.
Step-out drilling from Pad 3 has confirmed continuation of the LGL approximately 100-150 m to the north-northwest beyond the extent of the 2021 and 2022 drilling. This indicates significant potential for the expansion of the current resource, subject to confirmation in assay results and by the Company's appointed independent Competent Person. All Pad 3 holes, other than AM_DD_045, intersected multi-metre intervals of the LGL. The UGL was encountered in Pad 3 holes but generally represented by narrow (<1 m) partially mineralized to semi-massive intervals.
Sampling for geochemical assay and geotechnical laboratory testing is ongoing. The remaining two drillholes, AM_DD_041 and AM_DD_42, are planned to be drilled from Pad 2 (placed between Pads 1 and 3) in October 2026 and will provide additional geological and geotechnical data for resource evaluation and mine design. The delay in drilling from Pad 2 has been necessitated by the lack of available helicopter support this month. The optional Pad 4 holes are now expected to be included in Phase IV drilling in 2027.
Downhole televiewing of the Phase III drillholes will also be conducted during October to provide detailed structural data and further support geotechnical characterisation.
Hydrogeological investigations have been completed in vertical holes AM_DD_039 and AM_DD_043, including packer testing and the permanent installation of vibrating wire piezometers to characterise groundwater conditions. A further vibrating wire piezometer is planned for installation in AM_DD_041 to increase the spatial coverage of the groundwater monitoring network. These observations and measurements will contribute to the planned Prefeasibility Study, which is expected to start by the end of 2026.
Figure 1, showing the planned drill holes of the Phase III programme. All holes from drill pads 1 and 3 are complete as at the date of this RNS. The figure also shows the circa 100-150m northward extension of the LGL orebody demonstrated by the drill intercepts in drill holes AM_DD_043 and AM_DD_047.
EU-Greenland Partnership
At the EU delegation meeting in Nuuk in September 2026, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, announced a €200 million Global Gateway Partnership Package to be invested in and with Greenland this year and next. The investment package covers education, fisheries, improved satellite and cable connectivity, hydropower and critical raw materials. During her speech, the President announced that "we are also financing the preparations of GreenRoc Strategic Materials' Amitsoq graphite project, ….a very important project in the field of the critical raw materials".
The associated press release states that: "The GreenRoc's Amitsoq graphite project is another concrete example of this mutually beneficial partnership. As an EU Strategic Project under the Critical Raw Materials Act, it shows the potential for integrated Greenland-EU value chains, strengthening security of supply and supporting investment".
