Agreement demonstrates Gelion's accelerating traction with global automotive manufacturers for next generation EV battery technologies
Gelion is seeking to replace the critical minerals in current lithium-ion battery cathodes with its Nano-Encapsulated Sulfur (NES™), a low-cost cathode active material made from abundantly available sulfur, that can be deployed within existing global manufacturing lines.
Gelion plc (AIM: GELN), the sulfur battery technology company, announces that the Company has entered into a Material Transfer Agreement ("MTA") with a top 15 global automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM Partner) to assess the applicability of Gelion's NES™ cathode platform across a range of future electric vehicle (EV) battery technologies.
Highlights
OEM Partner to validate NES™ in both liquid and solid electrolyte cell configurations for EV applications.
Deepens industry assessment of Gelion's NES™ technology in EV applications, alongside other top tier automotive OEMs.
Enables the OEM Partner to evaluate the broader capability of Gelion’s NES™ cathode platform which has the potential to be a drop-in cathode material for existing battery production lines without major re-tooling.
Under the agreement, Gelion will supply its sulfur-based cathode active material, coated cathodes and liquid electrolyte to the OEM Partner for evaluation in both liquid and solid electrolyte configurations including pathways relevant to lithium metal and graphitic anodes for both luxury and mass-market EV applications.
Strategic significance
The MTA materially increases the penetration of Gelion's technology in EV applications across the full spectrum of lithium-sulfur battery configurations, including lithium metal and graphitic anodes in both liquid and solid electrolyte systems.
Matt Wood, Gelion CEO, commented: “Our priority markets are commercial & defence drones, EVs and devices. We are now working with a number of major global automotive OEMs. Today’s announcement marks further progress towards the adoption of our technology and the generation of commercial revenues via funded programmes and eventually license and royalty revenue in the global EV market, alongside some of the industry’s leading companies.
“The growing engagement from global EV manufacturers reinforces the potential and attractiveness of our NES™ technology. This momentum is also mirrored in our agreements and partnerships across drones and devices, while our work with Tier 1 materials suppliers is advancing the scale-up of our unique, patented battery materials.”
