NIHR highlights genedrive's rapid genetic test

genedrive plc (AIM: GDR), the point of care pharmacogenetic testing company, notes the publication of a new case study by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) on the development, clinical validation and adoption of the Genedrive® MT-RNR1 ID Kit.

Published on 7 October 2026, the case study provides an overview of genedrive's collaboration with the NIHR, the University of Manchester and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in developing the world's first rapid point-of-care genetic test to identify newborns at risk of hearing loss from certain antibiotics. It outlines the role of NIHR funding and clinical research in supporting the technology's ongoing adoption, including the PALOH and follow-on PALOH-UK studies. It also highlights the potential for genedrive's technology to deliver an estimated £5 million in annual NHS savings, if rolled out nationally.
