Ferrandina - European Sustainability Accreditation
80 Mile PLC announced that its Ferrandina biodiesel plant in Italy has achieved both Italian National Sustainability Certification Scheme (INS) and International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) accreditation. These certifications confirm that the plant's products meet the stringent sustainability, traceability, and greenhouse gas emissions-saving criteria required by Italian and European Union regulations. This accreditation is commercially significant as it allows Greenswitch's products to qualify for "double counting" treatment under the Italian biodiesel obligation system and the associated Certificati di Immissione in Consumo (CIC) regime, which typically attracts a material premium of €300-500+ per tonne, enhancing the economic viability and market attractiveness of the plant's output as it moves towards commercial production.

80 Mile PLC (AIM: 80M, FSE: S5WA, OTC: BLLYF), the exploration and development company with projects in Greenland, Finland and Italy, is pleased to announce that its 100% owned subsidiary Hydrogen Valley has secured two important sustainability certifications for the Greenswitch S.r.l. ("Greenswitch") Ferrandina biodiesel facility in southern Italy.
Greenswitch has been awarded both the Italian National Sustainability Certification Scheme (INS) and the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) for the Ferrandina Biodiesel facility in Italy. These certifications formally confirm that products from the Ferrandina plant meet the sustainability, traceability and greenhouse gas emissions-saving criteria required under Italian and European Union renewable fuels regulations.
Commercial Significance
The combination of INS and ISCC certification is particularly valuable in the Italian market. It enables Greenswitch's products to qualify for "double counting" treatment under the Italian biodiesel obligation system and for the associated Certificati di Immissione in Consumo (CIC) regime administered by the GSE.
Biodiesels that achieve double-counting status and generate CICs typically attract a material premium relative to non-certified or single-counted product. Based on recent market values for advanced CICs, qualifying product has commonly attracted a material premium, often in the order of €300-500+ per tonne depending on feedstock, GHG savings and prevailing certificate prices.
This significantly enhances the commercial attractiveness of Ferrandina's output to fuel distributors and obligated parties, and is expected to support stronger pricing and more favourable offtake discussions.
These certifications therefore represent both a regulatory de-risking milestone and a tangible improvement in the potential economics of the plant as Hydrogen Valley and Greenswitch continue restart and commissioning activities, with the objective of establishing commercial production of biodiesel and other renewable fuel products.
Mark Frascogna, Managing Director of Hydrogen Valley, commented:
"Securing both the INS and ISCC certifications is a meaningful validation of the work completed by the Greenswitch team. These approvals confirm that our products meet the rigorous standards required to access the higher-value segments of the European biodiesel market, including eligibility for double counting and the associated incentive mechanisms. This strengthens Greenswitch's position as we advance towards commercial production."
Additional information
Greenswitch has successfully obtained key sustainability certifications from the relevant authorities in Italy for Ferrandina. The approvals include the receipt of both the Italian National Sustainability Certification Scheme ("INS") and International Sustainability and Carbon Certification ("ISCC") certifications, which formally recognise the products as qualifying under the applicable sustainability criteria for advanced renewable fuels. A recent sustainability audit provided independent verification that Greenswitch complies with sustainability requirements and issued a positive recommendation for certification, with no issues identified across the entire processing facility.
The ISCC verifies compliance with applicable European Union sustainability, traceability and greenhouse gas emissions-saving requirements. INS is Italy's national sustainability certification scheme for biodiesel and bioliquids and is particularly relevant to eligibility for Italian double-counting treatment and the associated Certificati di Immissione in Consumo regime.
This enhanced market positioning provides Greenswitch with a significant commercial and strategic advantage through improved marketability of the Company's renewable fuel products and will strengthen ongoing discussions with potential feedstock suppliers, distributors and offtake partners as the Company now moves towards first production.
